 Characteristics of the Strawberry Tree

The strawberry tree is a medium-sized tree that can reach heights of up to 10 meters. Its bark peels in layers, revealing a color that varies between red and brown, creating an impressive visual effect. In spring, its white, bell-shaped flowers attract pollinators, while in autumn, the fruits—small drupes—ripen, becoming a feast for birds and other animals.

 Symbolism in Spanish Culture


In Spanish culture, the strawberry tree holds a special place. It is a symbol of Madrid, where the famous statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree represents the city’s coat of arms. This monument is not just a tourist attraction but also reflects the identity and pride of Madrilenians. The strawberry tree has been celebrated in songs, legends, and traditions, becoming a symbol of belonging and connection to the land.

 Traditional Uses

Although not as common as other fruits, strawberry tree berries are edible and have been used to make traditional liqueurs, such as the famous "licor de madroño." Additionally, in some regions, its wood has been valued for its durability and beauty, often used in furniture and utensil making.

"Día De Los Muertos, a millenary tradition for Mexicans"
